Semester Reflection
For my final reflection, I have chosen to create a website. English 112 has challenged me to reach outside of my comfort zone to try new things. By making a website, I can easily display multiple aspects of myself throughout the course along with my thoughts. These tabs are easy to view and one plus is that I can work on my final reflection from any computer anywhere.
To open up my reflection website, I think it is fitting to discuss my growth in reflections over the semester. My first reflection on Inquiry one was almost anything but reflective. I knew a reflection was required and that was my only motivation to create one. I quickly discussed what I chose to do, one thing I thought I could have done a better job on, and how I felt I did overall. The end. My reflection for the second inquiry already shows improvement. The length of the reflection remained about the same, if not shorter, but the quality of reflection is by significantly stronger. I reflect on my past with research papers and pieces that I have read as well as the class work I put into the piece. While I don't discuss very much at length, the ideas are there to go further into detail, which I unfortunately did not. By the time Inquiry three rolled around, my reflections had greatly improved. The reflection was a page and a half of important information. I start off by introducing my different choices and go into my topic choice. Next, I transition to struggles finding a second event to discuss and a solid connection between the two. I then move on to how I would present my inquiry. This brought about trouble with including my theme appropriately in the finished project. I conclude with a strong paragraph summarizing the entire project and what I feel I have gained from the experience.
I considered how to start this website for a great deal of time. Finally, I decided to start with what I was most excited about, the "Something New" tab. I wanted to get my ideas onto paper before I might forget where I was going and lose a potentially strong idea. I then worked backwards going to "Reader", then "Writer", and finally "Learner." This left my homepage and opening reflection for last. As I looked back on everything I said in the first tabs, I couldn't find anything I had left out besides my reflection discussion. As I mention in my "Something New" tab with creating a website even being new, I chose to leave my reflection piece for my final reflection.
English 112 has taught me to think critically when reading and writing. I have been encouraged to participate in class discussions which I rarely do for reasons I haven't settled on yet. My opinions were openly accepted and discussed which helped me grow and want to consider others' ideas as they did with mine. I have been exposed to different literature I may never have read as well as a variety of mediums I hadn't thought of exploring. The Miami Plan requires both English 111 and English 112, but now that I have taken both courses, it doesn't feel like much of a requirement. I am glad to have taken both courses and particularly enjoyed 112. I am now ready for any reading and writing that I will be faced with in my next three years here at Miami and can't wait to explore even more new ways of expressing myself.
